Trident’s four person Business Affairs department, headed up by Sara Pearl, assists and guides Trident’s literary agents throughout the publishing agreement process. Business Affairs reviews all of Trident’s authors’ agreements and interfaces with publishers to ensure that those agreements contain the very favorable negotiated boilerplate provisions Trident has with the major publishers and accurately reflect the business terms of the deal struck by the agents. Business Affairs strives to have a collaborative relationship with publishers, but will fight long and hard to ensure that Trident authors get the publishing agreements that they deserve.
The Business Affairs Department also works closely with Trident’s Foreign Rights Department, drafting and reviewing translation rights agreements around the world. Business Affairs also drafts U.S. and foreign language first and second serial rights agreements, collaboration agreements, and many other publishing related agreements.
Sara is an attorney who has worked as an associate at a major New York law firm as well as acted as in-house counsel both for book publishers and at nationally distributed magazine. Sara and the rest of the Business Affairs team – Stuart Waterman, Anna Scheithauer and Emily Leopold – together leverage their collective deep experience in the publishing industry to ensure the best results for Trident’s authors.
