Sophia Kim
Executive Assistant

Sophia Kim earned a B.A. in Anthropology and Media Studies from New York University. Before joining Trident Media Group, Sophia interned at Simone Garzella International Book Scouting, Olswanger Literary, and Dystel, Goderich & Bourret. She continues to assist Trident Media Group Chairman Robert Gottlieb.

Sophia is open to submissions, and is mainly looking for commercial fiction, fantasy, and science fiction, with select interest in upmarket and young adult.

Sophia enjoys sweeping fantasy with careful worldbuilding and elaborate magic systems, along with science fiction (both soft and hard) that explores the human condition and grapples with ethical and moral quandaries. The more grimdark, the better. She is also interested in visceral horror that turns the stomach and has a psychological bent. She likes uncanny, off-putting horror, whether speculative or not, in the vein of ANNIHILATION by Jeff VanderMeer. Darker themes are also welcome.

On the lighter side, Sophia enjoys anything with romance in it, both at the forefront and on the sidelines. Queer romances and relationships are especially welcome. She enjoys character-driven narratives, unconventional characters, and witty humor, as well as stories that subvert or deconstruct popular tropes.

For YA, Sophia is interested in contemporary thrillers and fantasy, both contemporary and second-world, especially those featuring a distinctive cast of characters and an overarching adventure, such as SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo or THE RAVEN CYCLE by Maggie Stiefvater.

If you think you might be a fit for Sophia but are still unsure, she encourages you to submit anyway. Many of her favorite books are genre-defying and do not necessarily fit neatly into a single category.
