Lew Korman, Business Advisor.
ENTERTAINMENT IS HIS BUSINESS
Lew Korman has been a business advisor to the Trident agency from its inception over ten years ago. "I was so pleased when Lew agreed to help Dan Strone and me grow Trident," says Robert Gottlieb, chairman of the literary firm.
Lew has had a varied career as an entrepreneur, entertainment financier, COO of major entertainment companies (Tri-Star, Columbia, and Savoy), and early on as a partner in a major law firm and then as managing partner of a firm he co-founded.
What attracted Lew Trident? "The answer is simple," says Lew. "Robert Gottlieb."
When Lew was president of Savoy Pictures Entertainment, he met Robert during discussions concerning rights to certain books then represented by Robert as a literary book agent. "I was impressed by Robert's fresh approach to deal making, his open mind, and his creativity." From those negotiations, Lew and Robert conferred regularly, exchanging market intelligence and ideas. When Savoy was sold, Robert and Dan started the Trident Media Group literary agency soon after and asked Lew for his help.
After the sale of Savoy, the business of motion pictures no longer had any center in New York, and Lew did not want to move to Los Angeles, since throughout his career he was a long-distance commuter and he no longer wished to be.
"Publishing was a New York-centric business, and I found the opportunity of working with a new literary agency in entertainment to be very challenging," says Lew. He set up Trident Media Group's infrastructure, such as accounting, organized all of its departments, and created the financial models for its agents. "Lew is the person we think of first for any new project, major endeavor, or significant negotiation," says Robert.
"This is what I enjoy the most at Trident," says Lew. "I can put my creative business skills to important, productive use and achieve significant results. I enjoy seeing others succeed."
Lew's latest initiative is Trident's e-book operations. "We are creating a unique operation at Trident that will far surpass what any other literary agency can do, and Trident will be able to achieve outstanding results for its clients.”
